Washington, Aug 1 : No 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus took out American wildcard CoCo Vandeweghe in straight sets to reach the third round of the San Jose Open on Wednesday. Sabalenka, ranked 10th in the world, won 82 percent of her first service points and needed just one hour and 15 minutes to take down Vandeweghe 6-3, 6-3. Sabalenka broke twice in each of the two sets and was only broken once by Vandeweghe in the match.
One year ago, Sabalenka didn't even make it into the San Jose main draw, falling in the first round of the qualifying tournament. But now the 21-year-old Belarussian player already established herself as a force among the top 10, winning three WTA titles since last summer. She also reached the fourth round of the US Open last year.Up next for Sabalenka will be No.6 seed Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, who defeated American Bethanie Mattek-Sands 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. XINHUA
