New Delhi, Aug 1: India's Divij Sharan with his Israeli partner Jonathan Erlich crushed fourth seeded Ben Mclachlan of Japan and John-Patrick Smith of Australia in doubles match of the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Mexico on Thursday.
The pair of Divij and Erlich took one hour and 16 minutes to beat the fourth seeded pair of Ben McLachlan and John-Patrick Smith by 7-5 6-1 to progress to the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament.
Meanwhile, India's top-ranked men's singles tennis player Prajnesh Gunneswaran lost to world number 28, Taylor Fritz by 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 in the 2nd round.
In ATP 500 Citi Open in Washington, both Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna lost their matches. The wild card pair of Paes and Jack Sock lost 5-7 2-6 to Australian team of Alex de Minaur and John Peers while Bopanna and his partner Benoit Paire fell lost by 6-2 3-6 7-10 to Matthew Ebden and Nicholas Monroe.
In another International tournament, India's eighth seed Myneni Saketh defeated qualifier Matsui Toshihide of Japan by 6-3, 0-0 (retired) while seventh seeded Oliveira Gioncalo of Portugal disposed of the challenge of Arjun Khade by 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the singles second round matches of the ATP Challenger in Chengdu ,China.
The Myneni-Matsui match lasted only 38 minutes in which Matsui retired due to injury after losing the first set 3-6.
At Svijany Open ATP Challenger in Liberec, Czech Republic, the third seeded Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Vishnu Vardhan beat French combination of Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul by 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 in the doubles first round match. (UNI)
