PV Sindhu maintains her coveted fifth spot in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) women's rankings which was released on Tuesday.

In men’s ranking, India’s Kidambi Srikanth is on the top with 10th spot. Sindhu’s compatriot Saina Nehwal remained at eight.

Sindhu, the Rio Olympic silver medallist, has had a roller-coaster fortnight in which she finished runner-up at the Indonesia Open and lost in the quarter-final of the Japan Open, losing to Japanese shuttler Akane Yamaguchi on both occasions.

The Hyderabad shuttler has withdrawn from the ongoing Thailand Open with her eyes set on the BWF World Championships that will be held from August 19 and 25.

Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi has overtaken Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei to become the new world number one following consecutive victories in Indonesia and home soil.

Yamaguchi's teammate Nozomi Okuhara stood at number three and China's Chen Yufei at number four.
