Panaji, Jul 28 : Henry Kiprono Togom of Kenya won the 5th edition of the Rotary Rain Run’s half marathon which concluded at the SAG stadium at Bambolim near here on Sunday.
Henry clocked an extremely quick 1:09:40 hours for the distance of 21 km pushing back the challenge from Ethiopia’s Isaac Kemboi Ngemul who clocked 1:11:47 hrs followed by India’s Saidappa Myageri who finished in a time of 1:17:48 hrs.
Likewise in the women’s half marathon, Sapana Patel of Varanasi won in style clocking an impressive 1:43:08 hours followed by two Goans, Pratiksha Patil who clocked 1:48:58 and Anita Nishad who clocked 1:51:36.
Young army men were also the cynosure of all eyes, when they clocked some very impressive timings in the ‘Services Open’ category half marathon.
Vikram Bangaria was first in 1:10:36 hrs followed by Pawan Kumar Oli in 1:12:04. Dipak Suhaug came third with a time of 1:15:36 hrs.
The event was organised by the Rotary Charitable Trust of Porvorim in support of women’s health and education. The prizes were distributed by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Rotary District Governor Girish Masurkar, Ashok Menon and Brigadier A K Sharma of the Signals Regiment, Goa. (UNI)
