Japan Open: Sai Praneeth loses to Kento Momota in semifinals

Tokyo, Jul 27 : India’s challenge at the Japan Open ended with B Sai Praneeth’s loss to top seed Kento Momota in the semifinals here on Saturday.Praneeth lost 18-21, 12-21 in a semifinal match which lasted for 45 minutes. Momota had also beaten Praneeth at the Singapore Open earlier this year.On Friday, Praneeth entered the semifinals after defeating Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto.

India’s challenge in the women’s singles ended on Friday when P V Sindhu lost to Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals while in men's doubles, the Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also crashed out of the tournament after straight sets defeat to Japanese pair of Keigo Sonoda and Takeshi Kamura.
Satwik and Chirag gave a tough fight to the number two seeds but the local pair finished stronger with 21-19, 21-18 win over the Indian pair in 41 minutes.UNI
