Rio De Janeiro, Jul 26 : Flamengo midfielder Diego faces up to three months on the sidelines with a fractured left ankle, according to the Brazilian club's medical staff.
The 34-year-old former Juventus and Atletico Madrid playmaker suffered the injury during Flamengo's 2-0 defeat to Emelec in their round of 16 first leg clash in Ecuador on Wednesday. "The fracture is considered complex and he'll require surgery," Flamengo team doctor Marcio Tannure told reporters. "He will be evaluated and underwent further exams to analyze the full extent of the injury. The surgery will take place as soon as possible," he added.
