Mumbai, Jul 21 : The National Selection Committee led by chief selector MSK Prasad on Sunday said Virat Kohli will be the captain for Team India in all three formats during the West Indies Tour while former captain M S Dhoni will not be part of the team and all-rounder Hairdik Pandya has been rested.
After the hectic and intense World Cup campaign, many had believed that the Indian skipper might skip the first part of the series. However, after Indian lost in the semifinal, there was a buzz about Rohit Sharma likely to be considered as captain for the limited over teams. The reason for such a move is that despite Kohli being a consistent batsman hasn’t won any major ICC tournament for India and it was time Sharma is given the reigns.
Rohit Sharma came as a strong contender against Virat Kohli for captaincy. Sharma has the credentials of Indian Premier League as an efficient captain.
Ajinkya Rahane will be the vice-captain for two Tests while Rohit Sharma will take charge as vice-captain for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. (UNI)
