Chandigarh, Jul 21: Pairing with Marcus Daniell, of New Zealand, Indian ace player Leander Paes lost a close battle in the men's doubles semi-final in the $ 583,585 Hall of Fame Open ATP Tennis Tournament on grass in Newport, Rhode Island.
Third seeded pair was beaten by Marcel Granollers of Spain and Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine 3-6, 7-6 (8), 11-9 in one hour and 36 minutes.
Granollers and Stakhovsky fired five aces and committed five double faults. This pair won 38 out of 51 points on their first service and 11 out of 23 points on their second service. They saved two out of four break points and saved one out of five break points.
Granollers/Stakhovsky saved match points at 5/6 and 7/8 in the second-set tie-break and another at 8/9 in the Match Tie-break.
Paes and Daniell earned 43 points out of 54 on their first service and 12 out of 24 points on their second service. They saved four out of five break points and won two out of four break points. Paes and Daniell committed two double faults.
