Agency News

BELGRADE, Jul 17 : Serbia Red Star (Crvena Zvezda) beat Lithuanian Suduva 2-1 in the second leg of the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League here on Tuesday.

With a goalless draw result from the first match, the home team started the second leg with a clear intention to stay in the competition.

After just four minutes, Ben Nabouhane sent a precise pass in front of the goal of Suduva, while Richmond Boakye ran onto the ball and sent it behind goalkeeper Ivan Kardum with a powerful strike. The home team continued with attacking play and their overall domination.

In 29th minute of the match, Ben Nabouhane once again provided a useful assist that Boakye passed on to Marko Marin, who turned into a wonderful goal. In the 60th minute, Red Star's Marko Gobeljic was sent off with a red card because of his rough start over Vaidas Slavickas of Suduva, which resulted in his broken leg.

However, the Lithuanians did not seem benefit out of their advantage, missing their only serious opportunity to score in the 86th minute, however, Mihret Topcagic saved the honor of the guest team and scored in the 96th minute, seconds before the final whistle.

Red Star will play in the second round against HJK Helsinki from Finland.
