Kabul, Jul 12: Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Friday appointed leg-spin Rashid Khan as captain for all formats of the game replacing Gulbadin Naib while former skipper Asghar Afghan will serve as the Vice-captain.

Addressing the press conference, which also featured CEO Lutfullah Stanikzai and Rashid Khan, Fazli said, ''The decision to appoint Rashid Khan as Captain across all three formats was taken after consulting Chief Selector Andy Moles and other board members. He thanked Rashid for accepting the major responsibility and expressed hope that he will be a successful leader.

By appointing Rashid as the captain, the Cricket Board has put an end to split captaincy. Before the start of the World Cup, the ACB had appointed Gulbadin Naib as ODI captain, Rashid as T20I captain and Rahmat Shah as the Test captain.

“Me and other board members met the President Ashraf Ghani yesterday at the presidential palace. The president assured of the government’s full support to ACB and instructed the board to take required steps for the betterment of Cricket,” Fazli added. ACB’s newly appointed CEO, Lutfullah Stanikzai also addressed the media and remarked that there are many expectations from Rashid who is a global cricket star and has the ability to take the team forward.

Rashid Khan called his new role as the National Captain as a major responsibility on his shoulders and expressed hope that using his experience, he will be able to be successful in his new role for the National Team. “There are no issues in the team, we all play as one team and play for the country only. Whatever I am today, is because of this country and this team,” Rashid said.
Khan called Asghar Afghan’s experience valuable for the team and said that he will strive to make best use of his experience during his tenure as Captain. (UNI)
