Fans slam Team Management for dropping Shami in semis

Agency News

New Delhi, Jul 9 : Cricket fans slammed the India team management on Tuesday on social media for not including right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami in the playing XI for the World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

Shami, who is replaced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the India’s second-best wicket-taker in the tournament after Jasprit Bumrah, looked like an obvious choice in the playing XI, especially after taking 14 wickets in the past four matches. During India's league encounter against Afghanistan, Shami was given the responsibility to bowl the last over and Shami delivered by taking a hat-trick.

Former cricketers and fans took to Twitter to express their dismay at Shami’s snub. “Like Sourav Ganguly, I admit I am surprised by the dropping of Shami. He takes wickets upfront and if you do, the death overs aren’t as critical. India batting very deep with Jadeja at 8 but it is a big call to leave out Kuldeep against a team he has done well,” tweeted commentator Harsha Bhogle.

'There are about 20 people sitting around me right now, nobody has a clue why Bhuvi is playing ahead of Shami. And they all know the game,” wrote one of the twitter user.

'That's not fair at all for Shami .. he's not that bad a death bowler as compare to Bhuvi and also far better than him in wicket taking abilities upfront,' tweeted another user. (UNI)
