London, Jul 6: Fifteenth-seeded Wang Qiang from China failed to reach the 4th round at Wimbledon, after being knocked out by Elise Mertens from Belgium 6-2, 6-7, 6-4.
Wang still reached her personal best at Wimbledon despite the loss. "I enjoy tennis much more now," the 27-year-old Wang said.
Wang struggled in 2019 as her best result was a quarterfinal finish at the Premier Mandatory in Miami in March. From April to May, Wang won only 4 matches and she was beaten in the 2nd round of the French Open.
Bothered by injuries, Wang saved a match point to force the game into three sets. "Being ranked on top 10 and winning a Grand Slam title are my ultimate goals as a player. I just try my best to win during my career," Wang said.
Chinese player Zhang Shuai reached last 16 on Friday for her best result at All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club since 2011. (UNI)
