Jamshedpur, Jun 28: Local challenger Bimal Singh Sardar came back from a two-shot deficit to shoot a round of three under 69, 142 overall to win the Tata Amateur 2019 at his home course Golmuri GC on Friday.
Kolkata's Souvik Nayak finished second as he shot an identical score of three under 69, 143 overall to miss the title by just one stroke.
Souvik Nayak was enjoying a flawless final round as he was five under through 15 holes until he dropped two shots at par 5 16th and one shot at 17th to find himself in a position where he needed an eagle at the last to force a playoff. A solid drive and 2nd shot at the par 5 18th gave him the slender hope of winning his first title of this season. Unfortunately for him, his putt lipped out of the hole and put the winning smile on Bimal's face.
From the Mid-Amateur category, Bijit Roy triumphed with a total score of 190, 94 in the final round. Akhtar Ali improved his first round score by three shots(85) to secure the Seniors title. Promising young talent Tanisha showed maturity beyond her years as she scored six over 78 to win the ladies category by thirty strokes over Kashissh Khanna. Aryavir Singh won the Under-15 category. The Under-11 and under-9 category were won by Rachit Ranjan Singh and Archit Ranjan Singh respectively.
The penultimate tournament of the tour, Eastern India Classic 2019 is scheduled to be held on July 11 and 12 in the Tollygunge Club. (UNI)
