Chandigarh, Jun 21: Third seed Dalwinder Singh of Punjab won the Men’s singles title and Rs 2 lakh in the CLTA-AITA National Ranking Tennis Championship at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here on Friday.The top honours for women's singles title went to qualifier Vutukuru Lakshmi Sahithi Reddy of Andhra Pradesh.
Dalwinder defeated top seed Mohit Mayur in a one-sided match 6-2, 6-3 in the men's singles final. After closing the first set 6-2, Dalwinder maintained his momentum and played solid in the second set and kept Mohit Mayur under pressure throughout the match. Finally, Dalwinder closed the set and won the match 6-3.
In the women’s singles final Lakshmi Reddy won in straight sets against Salsa Aher. In the first set she was down 0-3, then she came back strongly and took the next 3 games in a row. After 3-3 both players played high competitive and made it 5 games all.Reddy broke Salsa Aher’s serve in the 11th game and was serving for the first set. She won the first set 7-5, in the second set Reddy was leading 5-1 up. However, Salsa fought back and took the next three games in a row to make it 4-5. Finally, Reddy won the 6-4 in the second set and match.
Salsa Aher and Kaavya Sawhney lifted women’s double title. Salsa Aher and Kaavya Sawhney blanked Medhavi Singh and Ayushi Singh 6-0, 6-0.In the men’s doubles final Atharva Sharma and Hardeep Singh Sandhu defeated Mohit Mayur and Oges Theyjo J in straight sets 7-6(3), 6-4.
Jai Singh Gill, President, SM Sharma, Vice President, CLTA and Megh Raj, Chief Operating Officer, CLTA distributed the prizes to the winners and runners-up of both events. (UNI)
