India got off to a fine start and was batting with 305/4 in 46.4 overs when play was called off owing to rain. Virat Kohli was batting with 71 and Vijay Shankar had scored 3. Just 20 balls had to be bowled by Pakistan when play was stopped. Virat has become the fastest to score 11,000 runs in ODIs. He took 222 innings to reach the milestone and broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 276 innings.
Indian batsmen played well and were initially very cautious in their game. The innings highlight once again was Rohit Sharma’s century. He scored 140/113. He fell to Hassan’s ball and was caught by Wahab. This is Rohit’s second century in the three innings he has batted so far in this World Cup.
KL Rahul too played well to help India lay a strong foundation. He hit 57/78 before he was caught by Babbar of Wahab’s bowling.
Hardik Pandya hit a breezy 26 off 19 balls and fell to Amir who was bowling extremely well. MS Dhoni disappointed and also fell to Amir for 1 run.
When reports last came in the ground covers were being removed and there is every possibility of play being resumed, weather permitting.
