Chennai, June 15 : Dronacharya awardee National Coach Cyrus Poncha was elected as the new Secretary-General of the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI). Mr Debendranath Sarangi, who was re-elected President, and Poncha were elected unopposed for a period of four years (2019-23).The elections were held at the SRFI's Extra General Body meeting held here on Saturday.The meeting decided to have a Director of Coaching and Jodhpur-based Dhiraj Singh will take this post. He will have a team of Coaches under him.Similarly Mr Srikanth Seshadri will be the Director of Referees, Olympian Munir Sait will be the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee as also the Affiliation Dispute Committee, while Arjuna Awardee Bhuvneshwari Kumari will head the Athletes Commission and Rajiv Reddy will chair the Appelate Authority Related RTI matters.
Both the President and Secretary-General will be the ex-officio members of these committees.Mr N Ramachandran will be the Patron of the SRFI.Other office bearers elected unopposed are : Vice Presidents: T R Narayanaswamy, K Rajendiran; Joint Secretary: S Balasubramaniyan, Binod Kankaria; Treasurer: K. Harish Kumar; Executive Committee: V K Dabbas, Vinay Pandey, KP Balasubramaniam, Rajiv Reddy, A Dayanand Kumar, Bhuveshwari Kumari.Mr Justice G M Akbar Ali (retd) was the returning officer, while Mr J M Fernando, TNOA General Secretary was the IOA observer and Mr T.P. Mathiazhagan, SAI in-charge ,was the Government observer at the elections.
