In an interesting match at The Rose Bowl Stadium, Southampton, India beat South Africa in their maiden match in the World Cup 2019. Rohit Sharma who scored a handsome century was the class batsman of the team who steered India to victory. This is Sharma’s 23rd ODI century.
Due credit must also be given to the Indian spinners who bowled well to get early wickets and to contain the South Africans to a total of 227. Chahal and Bumrah must be mentioned here for their brilliant bowling.
After the departure of KL Rahul, Dhoni came in and gave Sharma good support. He scored 34 runs and was caught and bowled by Chris Morris in the 43rd over when India was 218.
Hardik Pandya came in next and was quickly of the mark. He scored 15 of 7 balls and took the Indians to 230 runs in 47.3 overs. Sharma remained not out at 122.
India beat South Africa with a convincing win. For the Proteas it is unfortunately their third loss.
