London, May 30 : The UK's premier cycling event, the Tour of Britain, will start in Glasgow and end in Manchester this year, organisers have announced.
The route will take in some of the most spectacular sights across the country in September, spanning mountainous regions, lowlands and dales.
Beginning in Glasgow's George Square on Saturday, September 7, the eight-day race will take the world's top teams and riders through a 1,250-kilometer route through the south of Scotland, and the north of England before the final stage in Manchester on September 14.
Across eight stages, riders will tackle uphill finishes in the city center of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, in Kendal in the Lake District, and in Burton Dassett Country Park in Warwickshire.
This year marks the first time since the modern race began in 2004 that the Tour of Britain will close in Manchester. (UNI-XINHUA)
