Sikar (Rajasthan), May 25 (UNI) Himachal lifted the title beating Maharashtra by 1-0 in the finals of the 9th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship (B Division) here on Saturday.
While Madhya Bharat beat Uttarakhand 5-2 securing third spot and Uttarakhand had to settle with 4th place.The first three quarters saw no real threat in the opposition’s circle. But it was 4th quarter when Himachal skipper Sonam decided to take the matters in her hand. In the 49th minute the deadlock was broken as Himachal took the lead, defended until the end of the regulation time to be declared as champions.Battling for third and fourth spot Hockey Madhya Bharat eventually prevailed beating Uttarakhand 5-2.
Aishwarya Dubey opened the account for Hockey Madhya Bharat in the 7th minute. Gungun Kashyap brought back Uttarakhand in the game scoring the equalizer in 24th minute. But Hockey Madhya Bharat scored two goals in next three minutes to wrest initiative via Sneha Patel (26’) and skipper Shileima Khaidem (27’).Third quarter saw Chandni Katariya (35’) trying to bring Uttarakhand in the game but Sneha Patel (40’) and Shileima Khaidem (44’) came back in action again to put the match out of Uttarakhand’s reach.
