BERLIN, May 13 : Hertha Berlin have appointed Ante Covic as their new head coach, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement on Sunday.
The 43-year-old coach will succeed on head coach Pal Dardai and will take the helm from July 1. "After intensive examination of various candidates we have again decided for a home-grown coach. Ante embodies great Hertha passion and we said from the beginning that we want a coach with the Hertha DNA," Berlin's sporting director Michael Preetz said.
Covic spent 11 seasons as a football player with Hertha before he became a youth coach at the club. He has formed players such as Jordan Torunarigha and Maximilian Mittelstaedt, who both made their breakthrough in the first team.
"For me as a native Berlin who has played for Hertha and has been working as a coach for this club for years, a childhood dream comes true. I am a team played who values hard work," Covic told the club's official homepage.
Tenth-placed Hertha Berlin will encounter fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen at the last round in Bundesliga on Saturday. (XINHUA)
