Rio De Janeiro, May 12 :A late Alex Santana header handed Botafogo a 1-0 away victory over Fluminense in their Brazilian Serie A match at the Maracana stadium on Saturday.

Santana latched onto a Jonathan Silva cross and sent a bullet header past goalkeeper Rodolfo Alves with 18 minutes remaining. It was Botafogo's third straight victory which lifted the two-time Brazilian Serie A champions to second in the 20-team standings. In Sao Paulo, Corinthians were held to a goalless home draw by Gremio as both sides continued their unconvincing start to the season.

In Saturday's only other match, Uruguayan forward Leandro Ceara struck in the 91st minute to give Goias a 2-1 home victory over Ceara. (UNI-XINHUA)
