New Delhi, Apr 27: Arjuna Awardee and Star Indian golfer Gaganjeet Bhullar, celebrated coaches Vijay Divecha and Nonita Lal Qureshi were among those awarded for their stupendous contribution towards the game during the fourth edition of the annual India Golf Industry Association (GIA) awards at a gala ceremony here at the iconic Delhi Golf Club on Friday evening.
Gaganjeet Bhullar won the Outstanding Achievement as a Player award. Kapurthala born Gaganjeet won the 2018 Fiji International, a European Tour event, last year and also holds the rare distinction of becoming the youngest golfer on the Asian Tour to achieve nine career victories on tour.
"Marquee events like the Indian Golf & Turf Expo do a great job of getting professionals and the authorities of the game on one platform and are the right step towards strengthening and growing the game in India. I am sure in the days to come, this industry and the game is only going to grow further, said an excited Gaganjeet Bhullar after receiving his award."
Vijay Divecha & Nonita Lal Qureshi, were also awarded for contribution to golf coaching. While Vijay Divecha has coached star golfers Anirban Lahiri, Chikkarangappa, Udayan Mane and others, Nonita Lal Qureshi, a fomer Arjuna Awardee is best known for her contribution to Golf in India as an international player and then as coach to several top ladies and junior golfers who have performed outstandingly on the international circuits.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Indian Golf Union Dilip Thomas was awarded for his lifetime contribution to golf. He has nurtured the careers of at least 50 of India’s top players over the past three decades. UNI
