Delhi Capitals eying cut-off limit for play-off

Agency News

New Delhi, Apr 27: Delhi Capitals, currently in the third spot behind Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, with 14 points, will take on Royals Challengers Bangalore here on Sunday at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium to reach the cut-off limit of 16 points needed for a play-off berth.

The Shreyas Iyer-led outfit will be high on confidence after Delhi registered a win after two consecutive losses here. Delhi Capitals are loaded with a solid batting line up where both experienced and youth batsmen can be seen. While Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw are capable of leading from the front, the likes of Iyer, Pant and Colin Ingram will follow.

In their last match chasing 192 against Rajasthan Royals, openers Shaw and Dhawan guided the team with a 72-run stand and the rest was followed by a blistering unbeaten 73-run knock by young Pant.

The bowling department too has variety but it will be dependent on Purple cap holder on Kagiso Rabada. Bowlers like Ishant Sharma, seamer Chris Morris and spinners Sandeep Lamichhane, Amit Mishra and Axar Patel will provide a good alternative for the playing eleven.

However, on the hand, Bangalore too will self assured as after back to back to defeat, they finally managed to win four games and are currently are on eighth spot in the points table.

They won their last three games against Chennai super Kings and Kolkata knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab. Bangalore's batting line up includes the likes of AB de Villiers, Kohli, Moeen Ali and Marcus Stoinis who can shower runs in a difficult situation. However, their bowling remains a worry as the newly recruited Dale Steyn, who was brought in to replace the injured Nathan Coulter Nile, was ruled out of the IPL due to shoulder inflammation. (UNI)
