Wuhan, Apr 24 : Chinese badminton player Han Yue failed to shine against Saina Nehwal, losing against her Indian opponent here on Wednesday in the first round of the 2019 Badminton Asia Championships.
19-year-old Han started strongly against the world number nine, winning the first set 21-12. However, Nehwal's greater experience told, as the Indian took the next two sets 11-21 and 17-21 to condemn Han to defeat.
"I had many continuous errors on the field," a rueful Han said after the game. "I was a little anxious. I had encountered Nehwal last year, but it was much harder for me to fight against her this year. Although I know some of her tactics, she made it difficult for me to chase the game."
The 19-year-old continued, "This result is quite regrettable for me, as I was busy chasing the points. I really want to win on court, and I do feel the pressure."
Born in 1999, Han took up badminton at the age of seven, and was first selected for China's national team at just 15, becoming one of a new generation of Chinese shuttlers to attract the nation's attention. (UNI)
