Kolkata, Apr 01 : Fire completely damaged the tent of century-old Wari Atheltic Club at Maidan before the arrival of four fire-fighting vehicles to combat the leaping flames early on Monday.
A maintenance staff received burn injury. 121-year-old Wari Atheltic Club has a rich history in Indian football as the club had produced, many India-internationals. Eye witnesses said the fire at the tent, located at Gurunanak Sarani, was first noticed by the morning strollers at around 5am and before the arrival of the fire-fight vehicles, the tent was razed to ground.
Two maintenance staff, gardeners by profession, used to stay in the tent during night, they said many trophies and documents reduced to ashes. Club secretary Indranath Pal said their organisation is one of the oldest in Maidan area. (UNI)
