David Warner powers Sunrisers to 181/3 against KKR at Eden

Kolkata, Mar 24 : Australian batsman David Warner ( 85) made his presence felt on his immediate return to cricket from one year suspension and led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a brilliant start 181/3 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their VIVO IPL opening play at Eden Gardens here on Sunday.

KKR need to score 182 in 20 overs. Thirty-two-year-old left handed Warner also took another task to inspire debutant Johny Bairstow, after the latter survived an LBW appeal on 2 from Piyush Chawla, and led into the run riot until right handed Bairstow was bowled by Chawla on 39.

Bairstow was given out at 2 by the umpire but on challenge the umpire reversed his decision after TV show. The duo stitched to 118 runs in first wicket in 12.5 overs and Warner further went on to pair with first down Vijay Shankar to tick on scoring for the visitors.

Warner was on great mood after scoring 50 in just 31 balls and was literally scaring the KKR bowlers like Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav, Sunil Narine and their pacers.

His exit from pitch came also in brilliant fashion when his big attempt from Andre Russell was superbly taken by Robin Uthappa.

A wide half-volley and he creamed it sweetly - the timing was sweet, but Warner did not hit the gap was travelling to his left but Uthappa slid across got both hands to it and held brilliantly on a dive.

Warner was short of 15 from a ton on his return for one year suspension for ball tampering in South Africa in 2018. Warner's 85 came from 53 balls with 4s-9 6s-3. Tamil Nadu youth Vijay Shankar helped to jack up scoring with his quick 40 not out in 24 balls hitting 2 4s and 2 sixes.
