Dhaka, Mar 17: The Bangladesh cricket team, who narrowly avoided being caught up in the mass shooting in Christchurch, have reached their home in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said.
The BCB took to twitter to announce the safe arrival of the team. "The Bangladesh Team has arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka today (Saturday) at 10.40 pm local time," the BCB tweeted.
The team was about to enter the mosque to offer prayers when the incident occurred but they escaped to the nearby Hagley Oval hotel.
At least 49 innocents lost their lives and scores injured.
Subsequently, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) and BCB decided to call off the third and the final Test which was scheduled to begin from Saturday at Hagley Oval. The hosts had a 2-0 unassailable lead. On Tuesday, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 112 runs in Wellington Test.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern termed the shooting unprecedented and the country's one of the darkest days. (UNI)
