Chennai, Mar 16 : Tens and hundreds of fans of local and crowd favourite Chennai Super Kings (CSK) queued up in large numbers as the sale of tickets for the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) T-20 cricket tournament opened on Saturday.
CSK sources said the sale of tickers, both online and at the designated counters at the statdium, were brisk right from the moment the counters were opened. Defending champions, CSK, who had won the title for a record third time last year, would start the 2019 campaign with a match against equally star-studded Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 23.
CSK finished the league stage second last season before beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first qualifier as well as the final. With just a week left for the tournament opener at the historic M A Chidmabaram, ticket sales commenced today, drawing enthusiastic response from the fans.
Several fans, who were queued up since last night, were keen to watch their stars, including CSK Skipper M S Dhoni, in action. The IPL matches could not be held in 2016 and 2017 due to a ban on CSK, and last year it was shifted to Pune as its 'home ground' following political protests over the Cauvery and other issues.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed for a while as there were jostling between the CSK fans and police, who were posted to control the crowd, near the ticket counters. As the crowd kept swelling despite the searing heat, some of the fans also picked up arguments with the police. However, normalcy was restored by the police.UNI
