Chandigarh, Mar 11 : Rohan Bopanna of India, partnering with Denis Shapovalov of Canada lost to Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Fanio Fognini of Italy in doubles second round 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 in the $8,359,455 Indian Wells ATP 1000 Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, US.
Bopanna-Shapovalov broke Djokovic-Fognini in the fourth game of the first set and next holding their service they took a 4-1 lead. Djokovic-Fognini hit back and broke their rivals in the seventh game and went on to level the score 4-4 in the eighth game. Bopanna-Shapovalov had a chance to break their opponents in the 8th game as they led 15-40. However, Djokovic-Fognini rallied to make it deuce 40-40 (deciding) which they clinched. Bopanna-Shapovalov won the set 6-4.
Bopanna-Shapovalov displayed superb game and clinched the second set by just dropping a game at 6-1. After sharing the first two sets, in the super tie-breaker Djokovic-Fognini emerged winners by 10-8 and the match.
Bopanna-Shapovalov won $ 30,060 and 120 ATP points. Bopanna-Shapovalov fired seven aces and won 28 out of 35 points on first service and 9 out of 17 on second service. They won three out of 10 break points.
Djokovic-Fognini got two aces and one double fault. They won 25 out of 44 points on first service and 4 out of 10 on second service. Djokovic-Fognini saved seven out of 10 break points and won two out of two break points.UNI
