Hyderabad, Mar 2: India beat Australia by 6 wickets in the first ODI of the five-match series at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Saturday.
With this win, India, which made 240 runs for four wickets in 48.2 overs, took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series against the visitors which made 236 runs for seven off their 50 overs after winning the toss and elected to bat.
India rode on MS Dhoni's unbeatable 59 and Kedhar Jadhav's 81 not out innings to reach the target in 48.2 overs after they restricted the Aussies to 236 for 7 in the first innings.
India lost their four wickets, including that of skipper Virat Kohli (44) and Rohit Sharma (37), in quick succession. But Dhoni and Jadhav came to India's rescue, helping India to take go 1-0 up in their last series before World Cup.
Former captain Dhoni, on Saturday, became the most profilic six-hitter for India in one-day internationals as he hit 216th six for India in the first ODI against Australia.
Prior to the match, Dhoni and Rohit Sharma were both tied with 215 sixes but Dhoni overtook the latter to register most sixes for India.
The milestone sixer came for Dhoni off Nathan Coulter-Nile as the former captain tonked the quick over long on, courtesy the strong bottom-hand grip.
Dhoni now leads the list of most sixes for India in ODIs that consists of massive names like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag. (UNI)
