Chennai. Feb 12 : In all 170 boys and girls from 12 states, a majority from Tamil Nadu, would vie for honours in the ISA Junior Circuit-I Squash Open championship to be held here from February 14 to 16.
Some of the top juniors like K S Arihant (Boys U-13), Sreeman Raghavan (Boys U-17), Khusboo (Girls U-13), and Pooja Aarthi (Girls U-15) will be seen in action in this SRFI National 2-Star tournament, being hosted by the TNSRA to support and promote lower ranked players, who could gain in rankings.
In the previous years TNSRA had been focusing mostly on four star tournaments which helped mostly the higher-ranked players. Subject to sponsors support, the state body hopes to conduct four to six events in the course of this year, a TNSRA release said onTuesday.
Meanwhile, SRFI sources said that this was for the the first time TNSRA was hosting a 2-Star tournament, which would provide lower ranked players to gain more rankings and rub shoulders with higher ranked players in 3-Star and 4-star tournaments.
''Apart from increasing the Squash activity among the juniors, such events will also expose them to more competitions which will enable them to gain rankings'', the sources said.
The tournament would be played on knock out basis over the next three days at the Indian Squash Academy courts here. (UNI)
