Congress hopes of fielding Kerala's football legend IM Vijayan from the Alathur Lok Sabha constituency were dashed.
Vijayan told mediapersons on Saturday that he would not be in the fray and wished to continue in his job in Kerala police, be associated with football and continue his film connections.
Congress has been keen to wrest Alathur, once part of Ottappalam which was represented by former Vice-President KR Narayanan.
Vijayan said he was contacted by a few Congress leaders, including Anil Akkara, MLA. He said he was keen on staying with his job offered to him by Congress leader late K Karunakaran. He has six more years of service in Kerala police and said he would consider a plunge into politics only after that.
