Jaspal Rana has been appointed coach of the Rifle shooters’ team after initial reservations. NRAI seems to have revised its earlier decision.
The ISSF preparatory camp began at Delhi on February 5 and Jaspal Rana’s name was not included as coach. But on Thursday February 7, The National Rifle Association of India [NRAI] decided to set matters right and included his name. Jaspal Rana himself a champion shooter who has turned coach spoke to the President of the NRAI, Raninder Singh and matters were settled quickly.
Jaspal is credited with having groomed shooters like Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary, Anish Bhanwala and few others. Shocked at the initial omission, Jaspal said, ‘I was shocked my name was left out and there was no communication sent to me. Whatever I got to know was through the shooters. Having groomed these youngsters and nurtured them, I feel I can contribute to them and the country as India hopes to clinch quota places for the Tokyo Olympics’.
The Indian shooting team has been winning laurels abroad and at home for their fine performance. Jaspal Rana had travelled with the young shooters to the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and ISSF World Cups, etc.
The camp is at an early stage and Jaspal Rana is expected to join on Friday, Feb 8.
