Solid batting by Tim Seifert (84 off 43 balls) helped New Zealand to register a win by 80 runs in the first T20 match against India on Wednesday at Wellington Regional Stadium. Chasing a winning target of 220, India team were bundled out for 139 in 19.2 overs.
After winning the toss India decided to bowl first. New Zealand made 219 in the stipulated 20 overs. For New Zealand, Tim Seifert (84), Colin Munrao (34 off 20 balls), Kane Williamson (34 off 22 balls), Scott Kuggeleijn (20 off 7 balls) and Ross Taylor (23 off 14 balls) made brilliant knocks. While Hardik Pandya scalped two wickets, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Krunal Pandya, Khaleel Ahmed, and Yuzvendra Chahal took one wicket each.
A shadow of Indian batting prowess was on display on Wednesday at Wellington stadium. Except Dhoni (39 off 31 balls), who was also the top scorer, only three other batsmen could cross the double digit score. But Shikhar Dhawan (29), Vijay Shankar (27) , Krunal Pandya (20) failed to keep their initial momentum.
Tim Southee became lethal by picking three wickets. Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi took two wickets each.
