Gwalior, Feb 3: Hockey Punjab, Railway Sports Promotion Board, Mumbai, Gangpur-Odisha, Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, Air India Sports Promotion Board, Haryana and Karnataka registered victories in their respective pool matches of the competition in the 9th senior men national hockey championship 2019 (A division) on day 4 here at Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy on Sunday.
In Pool A, Punjab registered their third win of the competition as they defeated Chandigarh 3-1. For Punjab Sukhdev Singh (2'), Ramandeep Singh (25') and Rupinderpal Singh (41'), while Arshdeep Singh (11') scored Hockey Chandigarh's only goal of the match.
In the other Pool A match of the day, Mumbai who secured a 3-1 win over Association of Indian Universities to register their first win of the competition. Goals for The Mumbai were scored by Arman Qureshi (15'), Vedprakash Bhatt (42') and Pawan Rajbhar (59'), while Association of Indian Universities' solitary goal of the match came in the 26th minute through Lovejeet Singh.
Pool B's first match of the day saw Petroleum Sports Promotion Board register their third consecutive win of the competition as they beat Comptroller & Auditor General of India by a fine margin of 5-0. Goals for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board were scored by Devindar Walmiki (59', 60'), Affan Yousuf (4'), Harmanpreet Singh (13') and Lalit Upadhyay (38').
In the other Pool B match, it was Hockey Haryana who defeated Hockey Bhopal 4-1 to register their first win of the competition. Goals for Haryana were scored by Captain Bharat (9', 39'), Manpreet (1') and Yashdeep Siwach (49') while Hockey Bhopal's Captain Mohd Khan (43') was the sole goalscorer for them.
In Pool C, it was Railway Sports Promotion Board who secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Punjab & Sind Bank to register their third win.
The other Pool C match saw Hockey Gangpur-Odisha register their first win of the competition as they beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 4-3 in an entertaining encounter. Goals for Hockey Gangpur-Odisha were scored by Joseph Toppo (15'), Suman Kujur (26'), Sanjay Xalxo (52') and Stanly Minz (54'), while Sunil Yadav (7'), Ajay Yadav (49') and Captain Diwakar Ram (55') scored for Uttar Pradesh Hockey.
Pool D's first match of the day saw Air India Sports Promotion Board win their third match of the competition as they defeated Hockey Odisha 6-3. Joga Singh (27', 40') and Abharan Sudev (37', 60') scored a brace each for Air India Sports Promotion Board while Mohd. Faraz (4') and Mohammed Raheel Mouseen (38') also scored. While, for Hockey Odisha, it was Prasan Tirkey (45', 56') and Nilam Sanjeep Xess (51') who scored the goals.
In the other Pool D match, it was Karnataka who secured a last-gasp winner against Namdhari XI to secure their second victory of the competition.
It was Namdhari XI who led 2-1 after 40 minutes, but Hockey Karnataka made a comeback to equalize in the 45th minute and then found the winning goal in the 60th minute to win the match 3-2. Goals for Hockey Karnataka were scored by Captain VR Raghunath (20'), KR Bharath (45') and SK Uthappa (60'), while Namdhari XI's goals were scored by Harpal Singh (24') and Lovepreet Singh (40').
