Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 31: An unbeaten 70 from Ben Duckett guided England Lions to a one-wicket win over India-A in the fifth and final unofficial one-dayer, here on Thursday.
With this consolation win, the English team reduced the margin of their series loss to 1-4. England Lions, while chasing a paltry total of 121, achieved the target in 30.3 overs with the help of brilliant knock from Ben Duckett (70 in 86 balls) to bring the consolation victory.
Ben Duckett anchored at one end as he kept losing partners. Except Sam Hain (12), all other batsmen registered single-digit scores. Earlier, India-A won the toss and opted to bat first, but the English team restricted India A to a paltry total of 121 in 35 overs. India A never really found any momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
As five of the six top order registered single-digit scores with only Siddhesh Lad (36) showed some sort of resistance, at one stage the hosts get reduced to 57 for 6 wickets. The resistance showed by Axar Patel (23) and D L Chahar (21) helped India A to cross the three digit mark.
For England Lions, Jamie Overton claimed 3/24 while Tom Bailey picked up 2/23. (UNI)
