Kuala Lumpur, Jan 16 : Indian star shuttlers Saina Nehwal, Parupalli Kashyap and Kidambi Srikanth won their respective singles matches and progressed to second round of the Malaysia Masters here on Wednesday.
Saina, seventh seeded had to sweat hard to beat her Hong Kong opponent Joy Xuan Deng 14-21 21-18 21-18 finishing the game in an hour and five minutes while in the men's singles Kidambi had an easy win beating Hong Kong player Angus Ka Long in straight sets 21-17 21-11 wrapping the game in just half an hour.
Kashyap too faced a tough challenge against Denmark's Rasmus Gemke after losing opening game but bounced back winning the second and then decider. He won 19-21 21-19 21-10.
In the women's double India's Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy defeated Hong Kong pair 21-16 22-20, but in the mixed doubles Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy were edged out 19-21 17-21 by Netherlands' Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek.
However, Saina is the lone Indian left in women's singles will next face unseeded Hong Kong, Pui Yin Yip in the second round and Kashyap plays sixth seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia while Srikanth will take on Hong Kong's Vincent Wing Ki Wong. (UNI)
