Hyderabad, Jan 12 : The 36th National Karate Championship 2019 organised by Japan Karate Association of India (JKAI) will be held at Gachibowli, here from January 18.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, JKAI-Telangana Chief Instructor Rapolu Sudarshan along with Technical Director Dayanand Kumar said that about 1300 participants for both male and female aged in between 8 and 21 years will take part in the National Championshi. Of the total participants, 400 are from Telangana and the remaining from across the country.
Stating that the JKAI is the only association having a tie-up with the Japan Karate Association (JKA), Mr Sudarshan said that for the second time, the Championship is being held in South India.
In addition to the Championship, JKAI will also conduct training programmes to the participants in the morning with prominent instructors from Japan, Mr Sudarshan said 'Shihan' Y Ogura, 7th Dan JKA and 'Sensei' R Shimizu, all Karate Champions from India are coming to India for this tourney.
“The selected participants from this tournament will participate in the 2nd Asian Tournament to be held in Bangkok. They will later participate in 2022 Olympics games”, Mr Sudarshan said and added that the competitions would be held as per norms of World Karate Federation (WEF).
Member of Telangana Legislative Assembly (MLC) Kadiyam Srihari will inaugurate the Karate Championship 2019 and training programme on January 18, Mr Dayanand said and added that Black belt 1 to 6 diploma exam, international grading exams, referee, examiners exams will also be held in the presence of Japanese and American instructors.
