Cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been suspended by the BCCI in relation to Hardik’s misogynistic comments comments on women.
The duo made this comment in a celebrity talk show ‘Koffee with Karan’. Both has also been dropped from the line-up for the opening ODI in Sydney, Australia.
This development comes even as an inquiry into their comments is pending. BCCI’s Committee of Administrators (CoA) had recommended a two-ODI match ban for the players earlier and referred the matter to BCCI’s legal cell.
However, as the legal cell refused to term their problematic comments and behaviour on the show as a violation of the code of conduct, CoA member Diana Edulji recommended that they be suspended pending further investigation into the issue.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli distanced Indian team from the statements of Hardik and Rahul in a statement on Friday. Kohli said Indian team do not aligned with the inappropriate views of these players. Both of them were heavily trolled on social media and faced big backlash on media.
After the incident, Hardik Pandya had made apology on Twitter. Taking to Twitter he said in a missive: “After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect.”
But that was not enough to douse the anger of the cricket fans of India. UNI
