Canberra, Dec 8 : Indian paddler Manav Thakkar beat Feng Yi-Hsin of Taiwan 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 9-11, 14-12, 11-1 to sail into quarter-finals of the 2018 World Junior Championship in Australia on Saturday.
Now, the Indian will take on China’s Xiang Peng in the quarter-finals.
If Thakkar reaches the semi-finals, then he will play against winner of the quarter-final between Japan’s Yukiya Uda and China’s Xu Yingbin.
In men's doubles, Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah crushed Argentina’s Martin Bentancor and Santiago Lorenzo to enter the quarter-finals. They won the match 12-14, 11-8, 11-6, 11-13, 11-7.
Now, the Indian pair will face Tapie’s Feng Yi-Hsin and Li Hsin-Yang in the quarter-finals.
However, in a separate match, the No 18 seeds, Jeet Chandra and Snehit Suravajjula performed a spirited recovery against Romania’s Cristian Pletea and Rares Sipos, the No 2 seeds, but lost by the minimal two point margin in the deciding fifth game (11-7, 11-3, 9-11, 9-11, 12-10).(UNI)
