Bhubaneswar, Dec 8 : Conceding a goal down, double strike by Alexander Hendricks guided Belgium to edge past South Africa by 5-0 goals in the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup at Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday.

With the win Belgium gathered seven points to become Pool C topper.

Belgium's high scoring win was created a worry face for Indian fans as the quarter finalist from Pool C is not yet decided until the end of the match between host India and Canada tonight. The host need a win to get direct entry to quarterfinals.

South Africa in a search of a win to enter the crossover match. They started their campaign by scoring a goal in the 36th seconds, while Belgium left it completely opened at their back, Nicholas Spooner received a long pass from the left wing and finished it in Belgium's net.

South Africa defence was looked more cohesive as it blocked two Belgium attack' in the opening of third quarter. However in the final quarter, Simon Gougnard pushed the ball from the right and allowed Cardric Charlier to finished from a close range to sealed the match 5-0.(UNI)
