Kannur, Dec 6: Italy won the ninth edition of Admiral's Cup Sailing Regatta with their consistent performance in all races held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala.
Singapore was the runners-up and defending champion USA came on the third spot, at the end of the final day races on Thursday at Ettikulam Bay inside the campus of INA.
The hosts INA finished the fourth in the overall position of Admiral's Cup-2018.
Midshipman Vincenzo Rocco and Midshipman Alberto Cabras performance helped Italy to clinch the title, while Second Lieutenant's Koh Yi Qian and Dillon How sailing scored points to Singapore and Midshipman's Jessica Mc Jones and Tyler Fleig helped the defending champions to finish third in overall position.
First Lieutenant Ebrahim Showaiter of Bahrain stood first in men's category followed by Midshipman Vincenzo Rocco from Italy and Second Lieutenant Dillon How from Singapore at second and third position respectively.
In the women category, Midshipman Jessica Mc Jones from USA stood first, followed by Midshipman Paula Kaminska from Poland and Cadet Francisca Mauricio from Portugal at second and third positions respectively.
INA commandant Vice Admiral R B Pandit gave away the trophy and prizes to the teams and individuals. The winning teams will be carrying back home the replicas of the Admiral's Cup and Runners-Up trophy, as these are rolling trophies.
As many as 62 Naval officers, including nine female from 30 foreign countries, and two Indian teams, INA and NDA-Khadakvasla displayed their sailing skills in the Laser Radials amidst challenging wind and weather conditions at Ettikulam Bay in INA premises during the last five days. (UNI)
