Over 1000 players sign up for IPL 12 auctions, 70 spots and new auctioneer

New Delhi, Dec 5: As many as 1003 players have registered for the upcoming Indian Premier League(IPL) player auctions to be held in Jaipur on December 18, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.

Of the 1003 players, 800 are uncapped, with 746 of those from India. For the first time ever, the list includes players from Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Puducherry, the nine new teams in the Indian domestic circuit.

Only 70 slots are available to be filled, with 50 of those for Indians. Franchises have to submit their final shortlist of players before 1700 hrs on December 10.

The IPL Governing Council also announced the name of Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer as the new gavel master for IPL 2019 season.

According to the official IPL website, he will replace Richard Madley, the renowned auctioneer who has been the part of the auction since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008.

According to the media reports, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch have decided not to play in the cash-rich league next year keeping in mind the World Cup and the packed first half of 2019. (UNI)
