Vienna, Nov 10: India's Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost to World No two Xin Xu of China in the pre-quarterfinals in the ongoing ITTF World Tour Platinum Austrian Open at Liebherr, Austria on Friday.
The Chinese ended Gnanasekaran's dream run with his perfect placement and powerful smashes. The World No two never allowed him to settle down throughout the game.
The Chinese player defeated Gnanasekaran 11-1, 11-7, 7-11, 11-2, 11-4.
Though the Indian crashed out at the hands of Xin Xu, he had a great run in the tournament. He claimed a couple of big wins along his path to the round of 16.
The 25-year-old Indian's first ever match in the main draw of the tournament, in which, he came up with another major upset, a 4-11, 11-9, 11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7 win over former world no 7 Marcos Freitas of Portugal.
Before the main draw, In the final qualifier, Gnanasekaran squared off against World No 17 Sang Eun Jeong of South Korea, overcame a two-game deficit to pull off a stunning 6-11, 13-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6, 11-6 win.(UNI)
