China Open: PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth knocked out in quarters

Fuzhou, Nov 9: PV Sindhu's China Open 2018 campaign ended prematurely after the Indian badminton star lost 17-21, 21-17, 15-21 to China's He Bingjiao in the women's singles quarterfinals in Fuzhou here on Friday.

The Rio Olympic silver medallist gone down 17-21, 21-17, 15-21 against her Chinese opponent in 70 minutes. This is Sindhu's third defeat against Bingjiao this year.

After losing the first game, Sindhu staged a come back by winning the second game, taking the match to third game.

In the final game, Sindhu started badly as her opponent took initial 5-2 lead and maintained it till the end of the game.

Bingjiao's smashes were looking lethal. However, in the final game, Sindhu tried her best to make come back into the game as she won five consecutive points to make score board 12-15.

In the men's singles quarterfinals, Kidambi Srikanth was also knocked out of the tournament after losing 14-21, 14-21 to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in just 35 minutes.

Kidambi, who had entered the quarterfinals on the back of a three-game victory over Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto, is yet to win his first title of the year. (UNI)
