Fuzhou (China), Nov 6: India's ace shuttler PV Sindhu edged out Evgeniya Kosetskaya of Russia in the opening round of the Fuzhou China Open here on Tuesday.
The third seeded Indian and Olympic silver medallist won the game without much effort 21-13, 21-19 finishing the game in less than 30 minutes. She won six consecutive points to take a 1-0 lead in the first game.The unseeded Russian tested Sindhu in the second game. However, the Sindhu clinched victory in the hard-fought encounter.
The 23-year-old will now face unseeded Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in the second round.Meanwhile, in the women's double pair it was heartbreak for India as duo Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy made an early exit in the first round after losing to Japanese pair Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto 21-19 15-21 21-17.
