Chennai, Oct 6: Incessant showers played spoil sport, washing out all the three matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group 'C' League, here on Friday.
Though two matches (Assam Vs Services and Jharkhand Vs Tripura) were abandoned without a ball being bowled, the only match, Bengal-Haryana match was called off at the M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai , after the match was reduced to 21 overs per side.
Haryana won the toss and put Bengal to bat first. Bengal, with the help of its captain Manoj Tewari's unbeaten 60 runs, scored 121 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 21 overs.
For Haryana, Mohit Sharma, Harshal Patel, and Arun Chaprana picked up two wickets each while Jayant Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up one wicket each.
In reply, Haryana scored 69 runs for the loss of six wickets in 14 overs. Due to rain, match got abandoned and both the teams got two points.
Now, Haryana has got 24 pionts in their eight matches, but they have to defeat Tamil Nadu in order to reach into the quarterfinals.
The other two matches were washed out- Jharkhand versus Tripura and Assam and Services.
Assam are yet to win a single match in the tournament and are languishing at the bottom of the table.
Jharkhand are leading the table with five wins out of seven games and Tripura are in the lower half, with 2 wins. While Services has 22 points in seven matches.
From this group, Haryana, Jharkhand, Services, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are in the fray to qualify for the quarterfinals. (UNI)
