Wuhan, China, Sep 26: In another upset in the ongoing Wuhan Open here in China, World number one Simona Halep was bowed out of the tournament after losing to 31st seed Slovakia's Ominika Cibulkova 6-0, 7-5, in the second round of the women's singles on Tuesday.
The French Open champion Simona Halep suffered a back injury during a practice session on Sunday and failed to fully recover for the second round.
Carolina Wozniacki of Denmark, who had received a bye in the first-round, defeated the 61st-ranked Swede Rebecca Peterson 6-4, 6-1 to set up a third-round clash with Puerto Rico's Monica Puig.
In another women singles match, World number three Angelique Kerber, who has already booked her berth for next month's finals which will be held in Singapore, advanced after a knee injury forced her American opponent Madison Keys to retire.
