Dhoni captains India for 200th time in ODIs

For the 200th time M.S. Dhoni leads India in an ODI. India is playing against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2018 Super Four clash. In 2017 Dhoni had relinquished captaincy of T20 and ODI matches. As both Rohit Sharma who was Captain and ShikharDhawan the Vice Captain were both rested for this match, the onus was on Dhoni to lead the side. He had last captained India in an ODI series against New Zealand.

Speaking after the toss, Dhoni said that this match gave him the chance to lead the Indian team for the 200th time in an ODI. He said,’..I have captained 199 ODIs, so this gives me an opportunity to make it 200. It is all destiny, and I always believed in that…’

Dhonior ‘Captain Cool’ as he is popularly called, is one of India’s most successful captains across all formats. As captain, he has earned 15 Man of the Match Awards and 4 Man of the Season accolades.
