Croatia’s Luka Modric has been named as the world’s best male player at the Best Fifa Football Awards in London. Creditably Modric beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohammed Salah to win the award. Modric won his third Champions League title in arow and guided Croatia to their first World Cup final in July. For a decade now Messi and Ronaldo have been hogging the limelight winning every individual award. Both were conspicuous by their absence at the Award night.
Brazil’s forward Marta won the award for the Best Female Player.
France’s Didier Deschamps whose team beat Croatia in the World Cup final was named the Best Men’s Coach.
Mohammed Salah received the Puskas Award for the Best Goal, for his performance in the Premier League last December.
The Fifa Fan Award went to Peru after thousands of Peruvians flew to Russia to support their team.
